The New Jersey Highlands Trail has
been designated a Millennium
Trail by a partnership between the White House Millennium
Council, U.S. Department of Transportation and Rails-to-Trails
Conservancy in cooperation with other agencies and organizations.
When completed, the Highlands
Trail will be a 150 mile long hiking and cross country skiing
route from the Delaware River in Phillipsburg, New Jersey
to the Hudson River at Storm King State Park in New York
State.
The Highlands Trail follows
existing paths, historic routes, a canal towpath, and the
Sussex Branch rail-trail. The Highlands Trail will be the
foundation of a network of trails, alternate routes and
multi-use paths throughout northern New Jersey. Highlands
