PRC Members and Public Join to Clean River
Area
April 7, 2002 - The annual
river cleanup was held in Jefferson, New Jersey on Davenport
Road. Nearly fifty concerned citizens and members of the
Pequannock River Coalition took part in cleaning watershed
property. The township of Jefferson donated heavy equipment
and a dumpster to help with the effort.
Volunteers ranged in age from
6 to 60, every one pitching in to restore the natural beauty
of the watershed area. Trash was collected including plastic
toys, construction debris and household appliances. At the
end of the day, the 2002 Pequannock River Cleanup was another
great success because of concerned citizens donating their
time and effort.

River Cleanups have been sponsored by
the PRC since 1996 with two major efforts each year. Our spring
event generally takes place in April with work focused on
the upper watershed in the West Milford/Jefferson area.
Work usually begins at 10:00 AM and we finish
up shortly after noon. There are tasks to suit every age and
energy level. Tools, bags and gloves are provided and every
volunteer - big or small, young or "senior" - receives one
of our spiffy Coalition T-shirts. Despite the unglamorous
nature of the work, our participants generally have a rousing
good time.
