DEP Permit Controlling the Newark Reservoir System

2015 Permit for Newark Reservoir System. This document is lengthy and must be read carefully to find the flow requirements. However, we intended these requirements to be checked by anyone and everyone. Here are the basics. Oak Ridge Reservoir – the release must be at least 5 cubic feet per second (cfs) year-round. Also, this outflow must be below 74 degrees from May 1st to October 31st. You can check these specifics at the USGS website on the internet. Go to Visit the USGS Station at Oak Ridge . Charlottesburg Reservoir – the release here must be 4.4 cfs as measured by the USGS station at Green Pond Junction. You can check this at another USGS website on the internet. Go to Visit the USGS Station at Green Pond Junction . By visiting these 2 websites and checking the posted numbers, anyone can see what is happening and report problems. To raise a concern, call the NJDEP Water Supply at 609-292=7219 and/or the NJDEP Hotline at 1-877-WARNDEP. That’s it!
